“Dysfunctional Family” is a fictional mystery and adventure story centered around the activities and issues within an upscale senior living community in Carmel, Indiana. The story portrays the responsible and caring leadership of the community, who become concerned about certain problems occurring within their facility. To address these concerns, they engage “The Team” as investigative consultants to uncover the activities and report back to them.

The narrative highlights the rarity of early awareness and intervention in real-life situations involving elder abuse. In this case, the community becomes aware of potential crimes early on, enabling the investigation to take place before further harm is done. However, the story acknowledges that in most cases, awareness and intervention come much later, often after significant abuse has occurred.
